The upcoming 2018 Crosstrek is built on the new Subaru Global Platform, which debuted in the top-selling 2017 Impreza. This architecture serves to make the Crosstrek more rigid, athletic, and stable. It improve crash energy absorption by 40 percent over the outgoing model. Active Torque Vectoring improves steering while its center of gravity drop by 0.2 inches. Subaru X Mode also makes its Crosstrek debut, which improves traction. The 2018 model also benefits from an improved gearing ratio thanks to a quicker steering rack. Body roll is reduced by half thanks to a new method for mounting the anti-roll bar.
